Hoju Inari Festival
March 21
From 11:00, festival goma ceremony
A Shinto ritual will be held at Inari Shrine from 12:30 p.m.
The mountain on which Kanzaki-dera Temple sits is called Dainichi-san, and has been considered a mountain of Buddha since the temple was founded. The mountain has been considered a sacred mountain, including the current site of the Kanzaki Town Hall, and Hoju Inari Daimyojin has been enshrined as the guardian deity that governs the entire mountain. He is enshrined in a small shrine beneath a sacred chestnut tree in the grounds of Kanzaki-dera Temple, and is a deity that has been revered and cherished by the local people. It is protected as the shrine of Kanzaki-dera Temple, and a festival is held on March 21st in prayer for the increased prestige of the guardian deity.
It is said that Inari originated in ancient times in Fushimi, Kyoto, where he was enshrined as a god worshipped by the Hata clan, and the original form of the mandala is also called Dakini Ten, or Inari, who bestows bountiful harvests and wealth, and is generally known as a god who brings many benefits and blessings.
The Hoju Inari Festival is held on March 21, which is the festival day of Kobo Daishi. After the festival goma ritual is held in the main hall, the festival proceeds to Hoju Inari Shrine, where a fire-lighting ritual is held at the Inari shrine in front of the sacred tree and a memorial service is held.
