Learning at Kanzaki Temple
Welcome to learn!
Even though we say we have a connection to Buddhism, this may not make sense to those who have previously thought of funerals and memorial services as Buddhist practices.
Kanzakidera Temple has many doors open to the public, but in response to the voices of many people who say, "I want to learn!", we have created a place for learning and experience.
The venue does not necessarily have to be a temple.
We have learning opportunities in easily accessible locations such as Tokyo and Funabashi.
If you don't have the courage to suddenly visit a temple, why not try copying sutras, take a class, or attend a consultation?
Sutra copying session
"Shakyo is a form of written meditation."
When the priest was a monk in training, he was pressed for time and had to complete a certain number of pages of sutras. He could not afford to make any mistakes and concentrated desperately on copying the sutras. When he did so, only the sutras filled his head, his consciousness was absorbed into the blank paper, his sense of time disappeared, and he no longer felt his own existence. This sutra copying event started from the desire to share that feeling and state with others. Therefore, the procedure and method of copying the sutras are the way the priest thought up, so it is easy to do, and the paper is easy to write on, and he has taken care to create an environment where it is easy to do.
If the venue is not a temple, unfortunately the venue rules do not allow the use of ink and brushes, so a brush pen will be used, but we recommend using something as close to a brush as possible.
Full Moon Sutra Shaking Session - Asakusa Venue
This is a sutra copying session held on the night of the full moon every month.
Since ancient times, Japanese people have had a mystical feeling about the existence of the moon itself . Its light does not emanate from itself, but reflects the light of the sun, revealing its form to us. It is as if the light of Dainichi appears in the waters of our hearts. On nights when the moon is full, "copying the full moon sutra" is performed.
The copying of sutras is done under the guidance of the priest. There will also be time for the priest to give a talk and for people to chat.
