The Master of the Year
The December Daishi Festival is called Osame no Daishi, and is the last festival day of the year, a day of prayer to express gratitude for the protection, connections, and good health we have received during the year. At our temple, on Osame no Daishi Day, we hold a Saito Goma ceremony using cypress leaves in the main hall, which is usually held outdoors. The smoke from the Dharma rises and fills the hall, purifying the dust that has accumulated over the year.
During this goma ritual, the talisman for the Star Offering Festival is consecrated, and after the goma ritual, each person is given a star-ward talisman and an explanation is given about the upcoming year's annual cycle, fortune, etc.

The final festival is the Hoshiku Festival, which is a prayer for good fortune in the coming year. The annual opening ceremony is also held after the goma ritual.
